If you have to test your applications on a 64 bit server pronto and your dateline is 24 hours, you might want to use virtualisation software instead of going out to borrow a 64 bit Itanium server. You'll save valuable time and you won't break your back setting the server up in such a short time.
What was once known as GSX Server, is now the freely downloadable VMware Server. The product, launched in beta now, is essentially an upgrade of the GSX Server so stability and functionality isn’t much to fear. In addition, Dan Chu, senior director, developer and ISV products at VMware said that the virtualisation software is currently the only solution to support 64-bit guest OSs and utilise Intel’s VT hardware virtualisation technology.
VMware Server works just like the GSX Server sitting above the host operating system and supports multiple guest OSs, including 64-Bit versions.
