Silicon Integrated Systems Corp. Leading developer, manufacturer and marketer of leading-edge logic products have just announced its newest product, the iS761GX chipset. The SiS761GX chipset supports the new AMD Socket AM2 processor which is going to be adopted by numerous motherboard and desktop PC makers and officially applied to the PCCHIPS A33G motherboard.
While the new AM2 pinout has not been officially announced by Advanced Micro Devices, the AM2 is already generating buzz as it uses upto 940 different pins. Although making it incompatible with prior versions the AM2 is chiefly going to be seen on the new AMD Athlon64 X2s and a few others. This latest format is going to coincide with the AMD CPUs which incorporate a DDR2 memory controller and upgrade to the DDR1 version.
SIS claims that the SiS761GX will support two DDR2 module slots with upto 2BG memory and will be compatible with only DDR2-667, DDR2-533, and DDR2-400 memories unlike some reports claiming other wise. SIS hasn’t released all the details except that the chipset incorporates Mirage1 Graphic Engine which supports memory upto 128 MB and a PCI Express x16 connector. There has been no word on pricing yet and is expected to hit the stores around March 2006.
