Free and open source software on Windows ? That sounds like an oxymoron and no one can deny that since Bill Gates IS the richest man in the world. So just be glad that some things are still free and this website is a good example of that -

Free and open-source software is good for you and for the world. This is the best Windows software that we know of. No adware, no spyware, just good software.
Some cool software :
GIMPShop - Photo editing application that rivals Photoshop in features.
Audacity - Simple sound recording tool.
OpenOffice.org - Big, full featured suite of tools for word processing and spreadsheets.

Another good site is Software for Starving Students. Much of the same stuff, but they also have a CD ISO image you can download and burn as many copies as you want
--and they have a MAC edition as well.
