But don't be suprise if the calls get cut halfway as you walk out of the Cloud's WiFi hotspot. Get your fingers ready on the dialing pad if it does not do a seamless reconnection.The question now is...Should companies fork out the extra service charges just to save on GSM/3G call charges or will it just be a more expensive option?
US BASED internet phone outfit Vonage and WiFi provider The Cloud are planning to release the UK's first mobile phone to internet service. The big idea is that when Vonage punters enter an area covered by The Cloud's WiFi the phone will switch to the Internet to make the call. Instead of the traditional arm and a leg charge for mobiles, the caller pays £7.99 a month, and for that gets free internet calls and reduced calls to mobile phones.If they wander out of the hotspot they will be cut off and have to make a normal call. The downside is that you will have to have a slightly bigger mobile phone, that costs £80, which will make your techie friends laugh.
