PixAlert detects Porn in Company Servers
PixAlert_Auditor_v3.2.gifWondering if your employees are downloading inappropriate images that might just put your company's reputation at stake ? I'm sure some of you do indulge in some naughty surfing but looking at certain pictures like child pornography could be illegal. Then check out PixAlert, the image analysis auditor. PixAlert will also be at the Infosecurity Europe, London, UK on 25 - 27th Apr 2006 at Stand 270. Too bad it does not run on Linux systems.

PixAlert detects and prevents illicit image abuse in the workplace protecting corporations and their reputations from the damaging effects of digital pornography.

Using a high speed image analysis engine, in just one day, PixAlert will audit a subset of the corporate network including desktops, servers and email files for illicit image content. This provides companies with a clear picture of the scale of digital pornography on their network. Along with this, PixAlert provides a report that assesses the overall risk and severity of inappropriate images based on the material found in the audit.

The severity of the risk associated with an illicit image can be extremely high, ranging from a breach of corporate compliance through to criminal and civil law suits. And it is a growing problem. The ICT fraud and abuse 2004 study by the UK Audit Commission stated that: "ICT abuse continues to rise and survey respondents generally felt more vulnerable in their use of ICTs". According to the Audit Commission's findings the highest growth of ICT incidents in the workplace is access of inappropriate material. Worryingly, the 2006 Department of Trade and Industry's biennial Information Security Breaches Survey, found that only 1 in 6 companies scan for illicit content in emails. The worry for the others is what images are slipping through the net via email, internet and other routes such as USB key, digital camera or mobile phone.

Unlike gateway-based offerings, PixAlert applications are PC/server-based to safeguard against Internet, email, CD/DVD, USB key, WiFi and cell phone-derived images. Founded in 1999, and based in Dublin, Ireland, PixAlert has UK headquarters in London and US headquarters in Boston.

PixAlert Auditor has been designed to:

  • Rapidly identify risks and incidents;

  • Run locally or on a remote PC;

  • Display images in a user friendly gallery format in order of most offensive material;

  • Fully report and document on its findings by generating a 'Case File';

  • Maintain a full Audit-Trail;

  • Operate on 'Windows 2000 and XP operating systems.
