Windows 98
Windows 98 Second Edition
Windows Millennium Edition Extended Support
Microsoft says they're old, buggy and never were supportable to begin with... or at least, that's how we heard it. Microsoft says you should upgrade to Windows XP as soon as possible, which... by the way... the company claims is so unsecure you really should buy Windows Vista... as soon as you've finished paying for Windows XP... or at least, that's how we heard it. And how secure is Windows Vista ? They will probably say its not in 2010.
Microsoft has officially begun requesting that users running Windows 98, 98 SE and Millennium Edition (Me) upgrade their operating system as soon as possible. The Redmond company will cease all public and technical support for the products on July 11, 2006, including all security updates.
Customers are being notified of the impending deadline, which was moved from January 16, 2004 to provide extra time for those still running legacy systems. No-charge incident support and extended hotfix support for Windows 98 and Me previously ended on June 30, 2003 and December 31, 2003, respectively.

Colbert, with Microsoft Office 2003, what can be done to speed up Word opening? I have a new and fairly fast laptop (Toshiba - 2006)(92.9 GB)
Word takes forever and then opens a second copy which asks do I want to "read only..."
Can a non-techie dump all "read only" programs so that word opens faster and ready to roll?
If that's too dumb a question, Colbert, can you pretend it didn't get asked:-) Thanks in advance for your wisdom...
