Here's a good article that talks about WPA, AES, 802.11i Wireless Protocol and WEP implementation. It misses out on the WiMAX and 802.11n Multiple-In/Multiple-Out (MIMO) technology but gives a good overview of what those terms mean and the history of it. Nice read to catch up on wireless tech.
WPA2 and 802.11i incorporate the security enhancements that were part of WPA, but they use a much stronger encryption algorithm, the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES). AES so far has proved unbreakable, and meets the U.S. government's Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) for security, FIPS 140-2. Other advancements in WPA2/802.11i include its message authentication code and its four step handshake, used to establish a second key between the client and AP. These and other features guard against unauthorized access to WPA2/11i networks.
