AOL is letting users test a new security tool that analyzes their PCs and home networks and alerts them about gaps that could leave them vulnerable to viruses, worms, spyware and other threats.
AOL developed Active Security Monitor (ASM) because to properly protect a PC, users need to install, configure and maintain a variety of software programs, such as firewalls, anti-virus and anti-spyware applications, and it can be complicated to keep track of all of them. "If you don't have the right programs installed and correctly configured, your system is vulnerable to attack.
Update :
Here's a screenshot of the AOL ASM below. I've just installed it and I have Safety Score of 90 on my laptop.
Active Security Monitor automatically checks your system and generates a Safety Score, which is displayed as a number inside a dial on the Active Security Monitor dashboard. Your Safety Score indicates how safe your system is from threats, from a low of 0 to a high of 100. The higher the Safety Score, the more protected your system is.
Because of the large number of available security programs and the potential interactions between the settings in different programs, you should not rely solely on the Safety Score without also reviewing the specific issues found on each PC on your home network. No single security program — including this one — can substitute for being cautious and taking other precautions while online.
ASM provides you with:
* A simple, clear display of the current security status of all the PCs in your home network.
* A security score, similar in concept to a credit score, that measures your exposure to viruses, identity theft and network intrusion.
* A recommended list of products, services and articles to help you resolve any security vulnerability found.
* Messages and alerts concerning your security software.
