I tried to access Windows Live Safety Center today and when I clicked on the big old Orange coloured "Full Service Scan", I got a shock of my life. It reported an error. Sheesh. That's dumb. They should at least post a note on the main site if its down. Pretty crap stuff to me and I might only come back in 3 months time.
What does Windows Live Safety Center do ?
Windows Live Safety Center is a new, free "beta" service by Microsoft, designed to help ensure the health of your PC. That means its not bug free yet as was highlighted above.
* Check for and remove viruses
* Improve your PC's performance
* Get rid of junk on your hard disk
Does it install anything on my PC ?
The Windows Live Safety Center scanner is a downloaded software and installed on your computer the first time you do a scan. Then the scanner will check for updates whenever you do another scan. These updates will include new versions of the scanner and new virus recognition information (also known as virus definitions) from Microsoft.
How is Windows Live Safety Center different from Windows Live OneCare?
Windows Live OneCare (U.S. only) is subscription-based software that, once installed on your PC, runs continuously in the background and automatically updates itself. OneCare offers persistent, always-on security features that generally don’t require any action on your part. Windows Live Safety Center is a free Web-based service that gives you quick, on-demand PC health and security scans to help you diagnose and solve problems, but it does not protect your PC against new virus infections.
