Things are not so smooth in the Microsoft camp, now that the whole Vista thing is eating into their revenues for the next months. So they are perking things up with a new hardware design that coincides with the new launch of the Vista OS to make it a major event.

A so-called Vista PC Hardware How-To guide for the ideal PC has been floating around where a Vista PC will have colours like black Obsidian or Ice white. Hmm. I think those names are quite col but it sounds more suitable on cars. People nowadays prefer to leave their PC covers translucent to show off their huge CPU coolers or colourful motherboards.

Microsoft is no newcomer to hardware design, of course. The company has made PC mice and keyboards for years. The Xbox game console has been a hit. Microsoft is working on a music player, Zune, that it hopes will rival the iPod. And the company routinely gins up ideas for PCs, including a small liquid-crystal display screen on the outside of a laptop to display appointments and e-mail.
