Check out the recent IT Leadership academy survey of 300-plus first-level IT executives (those who report to the CIO), second-level executives (who report to the first level) and third-level executives.
I'm sure everyone agrees that a good leader is like a captain that navigates a ship. If he can foresee and plan things well, the staff will be happy and the company will make tons of money. What else is there ?
In my experience, its not easy to lead anyone or any company. Experience counts since books don't tell you everything. Just remember that IT hardware don't have feelings but your IT staff have !
75% of the first-level executives said they wanted to spend less time with their bosses. A significant percentage wanted to spend a lot less time, with some going to the extreme of wanting to spend no time at all, with the CIO.
