IDC had forecast PC growth of over 10 percent for the next several years but in a report released earlier this week, IDC estimates worldwide shipments increased only 9.7 percent. Overall, PC sales were strong except for Europe. This is primarily due to the wide interest in the World Cup soccer matches in June recently. "HP, Apple and Gateway lead the way with double digit growth rates outrunning the industry average. Dell slightly lagged behind in the market while maintaining its leadership position by a wide margin." Due to Apple's successful transition to Intel processors, it enjoys double digits in the second quarter. The delayed release of Windows Vista will change the next cycle in the PC market."
