Recently, my wife's new IBM laptop was getting slower than a turtle. A look at the Task Manager showed that rapimgr.exe was running around 80% of the CPU time and the CPU load was 100%. So a quick check on the internet came up with some clues as to what it was. The process was called ActiveSync RAPI Manager belongs to the software Microsoft ActiveSync by Microsoft Corporation. It also recommended a download called Security Task Manager that displays detailed information about all running processes (applications, DLL's, BHO's and services). Security Task Manager shows all running Windows tasks including embedded hidden functions (e.g. keyboard or browser monitoring, autostart entry). A unique security risk rating indicates the likelihood of the process being potential spyware, malware, keylogger or a Trojan.
Security Task Manager improves on Windows Task Manager, providing:
* file name and directory path
* security risk rating
* description
* start time
* CPU usage graph
* embedded hidden functions e.g. keyboard monitoring, browser supervision or manipulation
* type of process e.g. visible window, systray program, DLL, IE-plugin, service
The Security Task Manager recognizes also virtual driver software, services, BHO and other processes hidden from the Windows task manager.
