If Unisys gets the $50 million passenger processing systems and border security contract from the Australian Immigration Department, you'll need to wash your face and fingers before you can enter Australia. Using Unisys' facial and fingerprint authentication technology, Australian Immigration officers will be able to verify a person's identity by matching the biometric against an original held in a central database, known as the Identity Services Repository.
Immigration parliamentary secretary Andrew Robb said DIMA plays "a crucial role in establishing the identity of non-citizens and ensuring the integrity of documents, such as visas, that people later use to access everyday services such as banking and utilities" and to reduce identity fraud.
