Good old biggie AOL has joint up with Kasperesky Lab's to launch a FREE anti-virus software known as 'Active Virus Shield'. No AOL membership or fees is required, although you will have to follow a minimal signup procedure.

FREE Anti-Virus software, such as AntiVir and AVG Free Edition, are rare in the market and AOL's introduction of a new alternative is welcome. We don't know how effective it is, although the tool claims to offer protection against viruses, spyware, malware and Trojans, not to mention real-time scanning of files and email.
