Try saying this out loud 10 times, its a mouthful indeed. Beta 2 of Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 Release 2 Service Pack 1 is out now and it is tiring keeping up with the numerous patches that they release. I wonder how much work their Release Management department gets daily. I would go bonkers too if I was a Microsoft staff.

The software, which should be in full release by the first calendar quarter of 2007, can be downloaded for free, which is good news considering the state of the economy. Wonder if they'll change the name to Microsoft Virtual Server 2007 later on?

New features included in Beta 2 :

- support for Advanced Micro Devices's virtualization technology
- new integration with Microsoft Active Directory
- Volume Shadow Service that takes snapshots of physical machines.
- new offline virtual hard disk (VHD) mounting, which enables customers to view and manipulate files in a VHD without having to start a virtual machine.
