Dell plans to recall 4.1 million laptop batteries originally manufactured by Sony and this is definitely going to eat into their
Profit and Loss Statement for 2006. These batteries were used in notebooks sold between 1 April 2004 and 18 July 2006 and there have been a series of public reports of systems catching fire. Luckily my wife’s new notebook is not affected as it’s an August 2006 issued one with the number GD775 which is very close to the faulty GD785.
Users of Dell Latitude, Inspiron and Precision notebooks can now visit a special Dell Battery Recall website to check their battery models. They can still use the notebook systems with an AC adapter but with the battery removed unless you want your house to burn down too.
Recent news reports have told of Dell laptops bursting into flames, and pictures of some of the charred machines have circulated on the Internet. Monday's move was at least the third recall of Dell notebook batteries in the past five years and we thought we’ve seen the last of it.
