An interesting article on the health of the Norwegian e-commerce sector. Banks are the main contributors as in a lot of countries around the world, but retailers
A few of the contributing factors in the growing Norwegian e-commerce area are
- Electronic signatures or digital certificates are generating a faster e-commerce growth,
- The law on electronic commerce that came into force on July 1st 2003 is making standards easier
- The law that the Storting (parliament) passed in February 2002 on electronic payments.
The Norwegian Post and Telecommunications Authority (Post-og teletilsynetPT) says the number of mobile-phone subscriptions increased in 2005. Specifically the number of mobile-phone subscriptions increased by 6%, to 4.75m (from a revised 4.50m for 2004). Of every 100 Norwegian households, 18 had no fixed telephone service, the PT said. The number of fixed-line subscribers in 2005 fell by 2% from 2004, to 2.13m. Younger Norwegians in particular may have only mobile service. I'm sure the Norwegians will have no problem with higher growth in this sector as long as they keep cost down and their customers happy.
