Patch Tuesday, the second Tuesday of each month, is Microsoft's
designated day for releasing updates. Although urgent security releases are sometimes released between official release days, Patch Tuesday has become synonymous with multiple patches and the heavy lifting required to test and deploy them. Well, looks like the latest Patch Tuesday has turn topsy-turvy since there is now an exploit for it.
Security firm nCircle has warned of an imminent worm attack that is likely to exploit the latest Windows patches and we are now seeing that in prevalence of the Oscarbot.KD worm.
The patches released by Microsoft last week in the MS06-040 security bulletin has been a major PR problem. Crackers have been able to reverse-engineer it and come out with an zero day exploit that “could take complete control of an affected system" making it possible to install malicious programs or to change or delete data. The US Department of Homeland Security has also taken the unprecedented step of warning Windows users to install a new security patch issued by Microsoft.
