James Coates from Latimes talks about some free software from
SourceForge.net that's bound to save you money for gas. I guess he's having a boring summer weekend since he's not out in the sun, so after you read the piece, get out there!
He covers freeware like :
1. WinDirStat - logs every software / document on your PC and tells you where to delete junk on your hard disk.
2. A bunch of old open-source programs for Windows at Freebyte though the last update was on December 14, 2005. They even have a utility for checking boot sector viruses ? Now that's so passe.
3. FBZip which is a clone of Winzip for compressing and reading the ones made by other programs, including Windows and the proprietary PKZip products.
