Using Windows Live Safety Center

When I tried using Windows Live Safety Center back in June 2006, it bombed out and the site was not accessible due to "Technical problem". So I decided to give it a try today as my old laptop was slowing down and I wanted to make sure thewindows_live-safetycenter-beta.jpg installed Windows Defender was doing a good job keeping spyware out.

Well, when you launched the Full Service Scan on the Windows Live Safety Center site, you'll be prompted two times to install ActiveX controls. No big deal as I cant let it run since it is a Microsoft site ! After a few prompts, it downloaded some files later and then it ran some scans. It did scans on spyware/virus, registry, performance and network safety. It even helped to remove some files from the recycle bin. Cool...

Well it looks like a good job was done and it will upload its scan details to the Microsoft server. So don't use it if you want some privacy...I will definitely come back this site if I ever need to scan my customer's pcs.
