Yes. I'm a sucker for free stuff and free software. Nothing beats the feeling of being able to save $10 for my Starbucks by downloading free software on the internet. Who cares if that trial version will
expire in 30 days. There are so many out there..Well, for a veteran who has used the internet since 1997 like me, I can download software with both eyes shut but not everyone trusts free stuff..I love my free Windows Defender Beta 2, Sygate Software Firewall and AVG Antivirus for keeping my PC free from viruses this last 2 years..
Here's a great article that talks about the reasons why some people still like to buy security software like firewalls and antivirus. The good thing is most of the major vendors have begun to sell ALL-in-one packages as too many choices will confuse users.
NEW YORK (AP) -- Microsoft gives away a security firewall with its latest operating system. Many high-speed Internet service providers offer free anti-virus protection for subscribers. And several Web sites distribute free toolbars to warn of Web scams. Despite all the free protection, primarily for Windows computers, leading security vendors are moving forward with plans to start selling their annual slate of security products this fall. Why bother, when so much is available elsewhere at no cost?
