Phew, that sounds far fetched, doesn't it ? Well ,let IBM show you the future with something called the Multilingual Automatic Speech-to-Speech Translator software -- dubbed "MASTOR".

After more than five years work, IBM researchers have brought science fiction into reality with software that can translate free flowing English to Arabic, Chinese or Spanish and back, not just word of word, but with context and meaning. Already, US Troops in Iraq are using the software to help with military and medical-oriented conversations between US forces, Iraqi security forces and Iraqi citizens. IBM is also investigating other uses for the software in aerospace and defense, medical facilities, law enforcement, banking, travel, and government customer services.
