Twelve months have passed since we introduced the first Next Net 25 - our picks for the Web 2.0 wannabes most likely to break out of the pack. The moment seemed propitious: Hardware was cheap, broadband was ubiquitous, software was open-source, and venture capitalists were once again flooding Silicon Valley with ready cash. The most notable acquisition of 2006 will be the acquisition of YouTube by Google for $1.65 billion. For 2007 there is sure to be certain surprises in store with the trend now showing that big companies rather buy into smaller companies to vary their market rather than develop something on their own. Most notable will be from Microsoft, Apple, Intel and AMD. Just time will tell what will be their next move. Google cannot be left out also with its recent marketing drive something might be planned up as well. There won’t be a surprise even if it involves a multi billion dollar deal.
