Time and again Viacom and YouTube never fails to amaze us with their ability to keep hitting the headlines all for the wrong reasons. This time it is the news of Viacom suing YouTube for $1 billion in damages for about 150,000 video that YouTube users have shared. Viacom alleged that YouTube is infringing copyright policy on a huge scale. However this court case might fail because the Congress holds the autonomy to copyright making policy. They might just amend it again as what happens to Sony in 1984. The whole case will be revolving around The Supreme court and the Congress. YouTube might or might not be in deep trouble depending on how the court and Congress acts to this new problem. How the Congress acts will determine how copyright policy can be better managed. Almost everyone is keeping their eye on this case to see how it develops.
