Google’s Most Mentioned Places

Matthew Gray came out with a somehow unique idea to record statistics of locations mentioned in Google Book Search Index. He used a set of data collected by David Petrou and launch his own mission by designing a nifty little program and had a map drawn out in 45 minutes with Google features instead of taking days on a normal desktop. The maps are nicely colored but I still can’t figure out what each color stands for. The most concentrated are will be the United States, European countries and India. This might just be the beginning but it is an amazing feat. In just 45 minutes you get the world map. It use to take hours, days and even months to complete a map. This might be the beginning of a new era of mapping the earth. With better technologies in the future the map can be updated every minute if there is a need to do so.
