Sir Howard Stringer, the chairman/CEO of Sony was invited for a talk on US TV program, CEO Exchange. Stringer is the first none Japanese chairman of Sony. He said he would not bet up against Apple’s Boss Steve jobs and he also talked about how Sony misses out on the portable music segment of the market. Stringer joined Sony in 1997 and in 1998 he became the chairman/CEO of Sony Corp. America. In 2005 he was named head of worldwide Sony parent firm. During the talk he also reveal how Sony decided to scrap a project that produce portable music players to market it 5 years earlier than iPod just because the company couldn’t get people to understand software. HD DVD vs Blu Ray DVD are also discuss slightly with Stringer claiming that Blu Ray will prevail. He also plays down the challenge by Nintendo Wii by saying that its PS3 is aimed at a different market.
