Is this the end of JPEG

Microsoft hits the news again. It is reported that they are going to submit an international standards organization for a new photo format. With everything gearing towards quality since hardware is no longer an issue, Microsoft introduces a new format that saves better quality pictures and better compression comparing to jpeg. Jpeg format pictures tend to loss their quality during compression. There are updates to improve it but still there is a loss in quality after compression. Microsoft claims that its new technology saves a much better quality picture at half the size of a jpeg format. Microsoft is working hard to market this new technology and making sure it replaces jpeg as the leading picture format. It has gain good allies and making sure its operating system supports this new format. Soon, Microsoft will be releasing plug ins for Ahotoshop CS2 and CS3 and also for Mac OS X.
