I ran across an amusing and informative blogpost by Ramon Padilla, "Getting to the bottom of a buzzword: What is Web 2.0?" and realized after reading the first two paragraphs that I really had no clue what Web 2.0 is, why I should care and whether it will affect my customers or the level of service I provide for them.![]()
The post also referenced a recent Dilbert strip that poked fun at Web 2.0 and again Scott Adams surprised me by hitting so close to home that I think I should look him up to check where/when we worked together, because he's sure got the goods on corporate America. I do understand that a Blog is recognized as one component of the social aspect related to Web 2.0, so I hope I don't offend anyone with my ignorance of the whole.
Like Ramon Padilla I started doing some research online to see what the most concise and meaningful (at least for me) definition was. I couldn't really find one better than what Mr. Padilla had posted, so "Namaste!" I bow to the divine within you and immortalize you here:
So what then is Web 2.0 really? My definition is: stable and reliable high-speed bandwidth and the tools and applications that spring from it that allow the “network to be the computer” rather than being bound by your local PCs capabilities.
Has Web 2.0 had an impact to your business yet? Do you see it as an undelivered/unrealized promise? Do you care?
