Storage behemoth, EMC (NYSE: EMC), recently acquired Utah-based Berkeley Data Systems, Inc., a privately-held provider of online information backup and recovery services for $76 Million. Berkeley Data Systems provides Mozy - the industry’s premier online subscription services for the protection of data that resides on desktops, laptops and remote office servers.![]()
I had written a post about online storage options back in August, PODS for Your Data: Online Storage, and Mozy stacked up well in a review of online backup solutions by ARS Technica. I haven't used an online storage solution at home or my place of business, but it looks very promising and with EMC backing this solution, it could become a viable alternative for businesses.
I had mentioned in my previous post that I wasn't sure how comfortable I would be with a 3rd party performing my backups. I wouldn't mind delegating backups to someone else, but the thought of my data being in someone else's hands makes me a bit twitchy. What do you think? Would you consider an online backup solution like Mozy for your business?
