This might be a bit off-topic for me, but I'm wondering at the introduction of the Amazon Kindle wireless reading device. It certainly sounds promising, but considering eBooks haven't really taken off as expected, I don't know how well this device will be received by the population. I did read that the Kindle sold out after introduction, so I guess there is demand out there.![]()
I heard some good things about Sony's Reader Digital Book and the little bit I saw online looked okay, but being an avid reader I'm used to the feel and look of a book. I've also heard that reading a digital document is slower than from a paper document. I like the idea of an eBook and the ability to upload a new book via memory card or wireless, as with the Kindle, is very attractive.
I've made the jump to audio books a few years ago (I have a 1.5 to 2 hour commute each day) and the public library usually has a great selection or can obtain what you want from an affiliate. I guess the jump to an eBook would be the next logical step for me, but I can't really justify the cost: $399 for the Kindle or $300 for the Reader Digital Book and the cost of an eBook: Kindle ($9.99 for most new titles) or Reader Digital Book ($10-13 for new titles).
What do you think? Would you be willing to shell out this kind of money for one of these devices? Is the eBook here to stay and is it just a natural progression to being more "green"?
